Welcome, Player 1, to the training module on the reticular activating system. In this module we discuss how to use your reticular activating system (RAS) to âcreate your realityâ and design your experience of the game.
New Training Module: Quit đ or Learn Skill? đ
Most people walk around completely unaware. They use what they are experiencing and/or seeing as proof to strengthen their current beliefs. For most people these are disempowering beliefs. They are unaware that they can simply remove their attention from it and it usually falls away.
How so?
The reticular activating systemâ or RAS for shortâ is a network of cells in the brain that acts as a filter for your experience. It filters out what you deem is important and will create a blind spot for everything else or âjunk.â
You see, at any given moment millions of bits of sensory input is coming into the brain, but your brain can only process about 100 bitsâ give or take.
If you do the math, 99% of reality is actually hidden from your awareness.
Wild, right?
Read that again. Let it marinate. Process it.
99% of reality is hidden from your awareness.
You only see a very small portion of reality.
I mean if reality was a 3 layer cake youâd be getting crumbs.
So what is the RAS actually filtering through?
Like I said, itâs what you deem as important.
You know how you're in a market for a new carâ you have a particular model in mindâ and then all of a sudden you start seeing that car everywhere on the road?
You notice a green car one day and then suddenly you canât help but see all the green cars on the road.
Youâre planning a trip somewhere and then all of a sudden everything you see relates to that place.
These things were always there but your RAS was filtering them out because they werenât important before.
When you couple this with the fact that most people arenât even present most of the timeâ
(most people are addicted to thinking and lost in their mind)
âthen itâs easy to believe that you arenât really seeing everything thatâs in front of you.
This is the usual example:
How many times have you driven from point A to point B and you donât even know how you ended up at point B?
You realized that you werenât even totally there when you were driving. You were lost in your mind and your subconscious mind took over.
Maybe youâre cooking but not completely there. Youâre thinking about what you did or what youâre about to do. Your subconscious mind takes over and goes through the process of cooking.
This is not necessarily a bad thing, (to allow the subconscious to take over), but if your RAS is not programmed to look for what you're interested in then you will miss out on a hell of a lot of opportunities that could be right under your nose.
Letâs say you feel like youâre stuck at your current job and you feel like thereâs no way out.
Thereâs probably a hell of a lot of new opportunities presenting themselves to you. But because thatâs what you believeâ thatâs what you experience.
You miss the billboard, the ads, the posts online that you scroll right past.
You miss the conversations that are happening around you as you stand in line to order your food.
The videos on YouTube that share a million different ways to make money are not even in your awareness.
All these may happen to present better opportunities. But you believe you're stuck (or that you are not good enough to capitalize on those opportunities) so thatâs what you experience.
PAUSE GAME. đŽ
Sidenote: Developing self-worth is outside the scope of this newsletter but I will say this: The mind is a MF, you gotta learn how to get it to work for you instead of against you and that starts with learning to see the abundance of opportunities right at your feet.
(Seriously, don't take your thoughts and beliefs seriously as if they are ultimate truth. You only believe them now because you have continued to strengthen those neural pathways. Remember you are only seeing a small sliver of reality so how do you know that your beliefs and thoughts about yourself and the world are true? You don't. The world is inherently neutral; you create your reality by giving it meaning.)
Letâs continue, shall we?
Okay. đ
RESUME GAME. đŽ
So how exactly do you get your RAS to work for you?
Learn to consciously point out things that you like. Consciously give evidence to your mind to support your new beliefs and new way of thinking.
For example the belief, âEverything is always working out for me.â Start to consciously point out when things are working out for you. The barista added a free dessert to your order? (This actually happened to me.) Re-affirm the belief: âEverything is always working out for me.â
What you will notice over time is that even when it seems like itâs not working out for you, it actually is. For example, losing a job could mean getting a better job opportunity.
"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.â -Steve Jobs
A couple newsletters ago we talked about goal-achieving. You write down and speak your goal as if it's already done. Then, when you accomplish the daily tasks that align with that goal (or new identity) you cross it off your notepad and give yourself a âW.â
As you do this over time, day-by-day, week-by-week, the fact that you are taking the actions that aligns with your goal is proof to your mind that you are becoming the person who has achieved it.
And once your mind gets on board thatâs when the ball really starts to get rolling. You might be out and hear a conversation where someone is in a field that you have interest in. Youâll start to notice the people, places, and opportunities that could assist you in your goal.
Itâll feel like the stars are aligning for you. (At least that's how it feels to me.) Things that were always there but that you were asleep to. So in this sense is âThe Law of Attractionâ really as mystical as people make it seem?
Iâll give you a personal example:
In that goal-achieving newsletter I disclosed my 3 goals for this year. One being that I wanted to move to Phoenix, Arizona. Thatâs something my mind is continuously focused on and I read it daily.
Guess what happened?
I started to see evidence in my reality.
Posts tagged in Phoenix.
When I was listening to music a band came up named, âPhoenix.â
I noticed the word âPhoenixâ written across an album by Rita Ora.
Iâll come across people online that have Phoenix as their location.
Of course. I canât help but laugh to myself when I notice these things.
Things that were always thereâ but now that Iâm focused on that particular city it continuously shows up in my reality.
This would be completely irrelevant to you and youâd filter out Phoenix. Youâd probably skip right across the band âPhoenixâ when you were listening to music without giving it a second thought. Itâd be meaningless to you. It wouldn't register.
Same thing with building an online business. Because itâs a goal and something Iâm focused on I come across things that could help me all the time. Pages and people that I could follow online that give me info I need. Ideas also come to me randomly for things that I could work on or look into that would assist me in my goal.
I donât feel like I force anything but rather Iâm allowing it to unfold. In spirituality this is what is referred to as surrendering to the moment and dancing with life. đ

So in short:
Consciously give evidence to your mind to support your new beliefs and way of thinking.
Read your goals daily (3x ideally if serious about them)
Let your mind start to find evidence to support beliefs and filter through info on how you could achieve these goals.
The mind is a MF, like I said, and if you are reading your goals daily but you donât believe or see how you could ever accomplish them, guess what, thatâs the evidence you will receive.
Be Conscious.
I know it's not easy to change the momentum of your thoughts so be patient. You got this.
Life is magical when you choose to believe this.
